Colleen met the Missionaries
Last Wednesday, before Easter, we had the missionaries (Elder Davenport and Elder West) over for dinner. Dinner was just finishing up as they arrived, so they were entertained by Gelisse and Byron playing Hungry Hungry Hippos. While waiting, Colleen called and asked for a favor, I told her the missionaries were visiting and asked if she would stop by. After dinner, we chatted for a few minutes about missionary work with the Elders and then Colleen came over. She asked a few questions about the Church and told them about the Book of Mormon we'd given her for her birthday a few weeks ago. Elder Davenport is a convert of sorts and shared his experience with her. It was an intense conversation and she wasn't exactly listening to us. I excused myself for a few minutes to use the restroom and I started laughing listening to the conversation. I felt a little sorry for her in a room with two Returned Missionaries and two Full-time missionaries. Joe and I tried to set the stage for them to invite her to read the Book of Mormon and pray about it. The Elders mentioned many times that it was the only way to know, but didn't invite her to do so. Just before we finished, Joe finally challenged her to read and pray and she said she would. The following day she qualified the statement by saying that she felt she could only know that the part she prayed about was true and would either need to read about every verse or read the entire book and pray about the entire book to know if it was all true. I understand and agreed that at this point, she only has to pray about the portions that she reads and we will go from there.
